ANY set of behaviours can be said to maximize SOME utility function so all behaviours can be classified either as rational or irrational, to taste. Empirical evidence on the content of utility functions are (1) sparse, (2) difficult to interpret and (3) often ambiguous or highly complex and variable. <br /><br />Given this, I'm not sure the "are people rational or not" debate is even worth having.
